2nd Istanbul Chapter; Essays & Aphorisms by Arthur Schopenhauer
For our second gathering, we return to Schopenhauer but this time, we go deeper.
In our first session, we laid the philosophical foundation: understanding his metaphysics, his life, and the core idea of the "Will." Now, we move from foundation to exploration.
We'll dive into specific essays and aphorisms from the book, examining how his uncompromising philosophy applies to love, suffering, art, women, religion, and the art of living itself. Where last time we asked "What did he believe?", this time we ask "What do we believe and how does his thinking challenge or illuminate our own?"
This book remains our anchor a bridge between philosophical foundations and modern psychology, challenging us to find a sense of peace that doesn't depend on outside circumstances. It's a direct invitation to "look well into thyself," just as Marcus Aurelius suggested.
As we continue this long road to Ithaka together, let us keep looking inward. I look forward to seeing you at the table for another Saturday of meaningful connection and discovery.
Let's read, discuss, and grow. 🕊️
