Discovering England - Chris Killip : Retrospective

Discover a different perspective of England and it's people in this engaging exhibition showing the work of Chris Killip ( Protected content ) an important British photographer in the twentieth century.
Working on the Isle of Man as a trainee hotel manager and a keen cyclist, Chris Killip came across an image by Cartier-Bresson while trying to find the latest news about the Tour de France. The photograph "Rue Mouffetard" of a boy with two wine bottles captured Killip's imagination so deeply that he immediately decided that photography was his calling.
The relationships Killip built up with the people he photographed shows in the depth and engagement that he captures in the countenance of his subjects. The images in this exhibition also show the simplicity of life in the poorest areas of England in the latter part of the last century.
