Afro - Cuban Jazz in the Liebeskind Hall
In March Protected content , the new central building of the Leuphana University of Lüneburg, designed by Daniel Libeskind, brought modern world architecture to the old Hanseatic city. With its acute-angled geometry, the building offers visitors an exciting architectural experience in a space of 21,000 square meters. The Libeskind Auditorium seats around 1,000 and features impressive acoustics and special strip lights in the walls for an outstanding concert atmosphere.

“I am a black man born in Cuba. I have African and European roots, and sometimes I have tropical emotions,” says Omar Sosa. Born in Protected content the fourth largest city of Cuba, Camagüey, the piano virtuoso is reluctant to be put in a box, let alone that of a jazz pianist. “Philosophically I’m a jazz musician, because Thelonious Monk once said jazz was freedom. But listening to my music... You can’t exactly say that I’m a jazz musician. I do not play straight-ahead, not bebop, not swing... by the way, what is jazz?” His home is Afro-Cuban music to start with, but elements of jazz, especially Latin jazz, mix naturally right in. The project es: sensual, which was developed together with the NDR Bigband and released as a record in Protected content , features both and is an homage to the great personalities of Afro Cuban big band jazz.
