Hong Kong - Shanghaï & "Rouge" by Stanley Kwan
This evening is part of an exceptional retrospective of Hong Kong cinema - "the Hollywood of the East" - at Forum des Images - an iconic place for movie fans in Paris.
* In the first part of the evening, we'll attend a conference (in French) by Anne Kerlan - a French researcher at CNRS, historian of China and Chinese cinema - about the fascinating history of Hong Kong cinema, from its very first days until Protected content .
We'll discover how the two mythical cities Shanghai and Hong Kong had shared the adventure of cinema. Their complex interconnections, their back-and-forth and fruitful dialogue amid Japanese occupation, civil war, poverty leading to mass displacements of millions of people during Protected content ... will be explored, with excerpts from both rare and popular films.
* In the second part, there's a screening of "Rouge" (in original version with French subtitles Protected content classic movie by Stanley Kwan - one of the major figures of Hong Kong cinema.
