Symposium on Anatolian Heritage Grapes
Seventy percent of the world’s wines are produced from only thirty grape varieties. These days we need to make an effort so as not to drink identical wines in the near future. For that we have to preserve the genetic structure of local grapes and increase their diversity. In parallel with the current tendency for ethnic food and the effects of climate change on vineyards there is an ever increasing appreciation of wines made from native grapes globally.
It is not enough to claim that we are in the homeland of wine grapes and wine. The number of indigenous varieties that has survived to the present day is in a dramatic decline. We continually lose being insensible of what we are losing.
The growing number of wines made from local grape varieties gives us hope lately. Thanks to a few producers, varieties that were disregarded in the past have succeeded in making some of the most exciting wines of our day.
We aim to discuss, the past and the future of our own grape varieties at the Symposium... Throughout the day, samples of wines made from local grapes will be on offered.
In addition to a wide range of wines, the event will be hosting the producers of local cheeses.
