Discover the National Park near Cologne
We will go by train to the starting point in the National Park Eifel and have a 23.1 km hike to the Rursee through the Park.
From the goal of the tour Heimbach we will take the train back to Cologne changing the train in Düren.

The hike starts at the National Park Gate in Gemünd. Along the northern shore of the Urft, it goes first downstream to the west before it goes through the Böttenbachtal up to Wolfgarten. On the eastern edge of the Kermeter Ridge, the hike leads to the Trappist Abbey Mariawald Abbey. The ridge of the Kermeters with its old beech forests was the decisive reason for the expulsion of the national park. In the closed beech forests, the wildcat living in the national park finds ideal retreat areas. The abbey Mariawald was built from Protected content Protected content Cistercian monks. A picture of grace was a magnet for numerous pilgrims. During the secularization in Protected content , the monks were expelled and transferred the image of grace in the parish church to Heimbach. Since Protected content is the only male Trappist monastery in Germany. From there the hike goes steeply downhill to the destination point Heimbach.
