Thai New Year in the Orient Museum
The Orient Museum celebrates Songkran, the vibrant Thai New Year (13–15 April). In Thailand, Theravada Buddhism shapes spiritual life and the calendar, which in Protected content the year Protected content . More than a religion, Thai popular spirituality is a living, everyday practice in which Buddhist ethics intertwine with Hindu deities and rituals, alongside a strong belief in spirits (phi). From water blessings to spirit houses, from Buddha images associated with each day of the week to amulets and sacred tattoos, from masks to statues, everything seeks to ensure protection, balance, and harmony.
In this exhibition, the Featured Object comes from the National Museum of Ethnology — a statuette of the Blessing Buddha - and will be presented officially on April 15th at 18h.
The current exhibition gathers works of art from different museums and from the collection of the Thai embassy.
