Day of the Dead Festival of Alters
Come to the festival of Alters, where people create and view altars (ofrendas) to remember and honor deceased ancestors and loved ones as part of the joyous Mexican holiday, Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)! A modern celebration blending ancient indigenous Aztec rituals and Catholicism, the festival includes cultural ceremonies, live music and art installations. It opens early (ceremonies start at noon) but live music starts at 5pm, preceded by an acoustic set by Mariachi San Carlos and food market with music at 3: Protected content .
The alters welcome the spirits and are decorated with photos, candles, the deceased's favorite foods and drinks (to share with the living) and marigolds to guide spirits to the altars.
If you wish to build an altar to commemorate an ancestor, you can do so before 2pm on that day by signing up at this link: Protected content
