Hors-Saison, Out of Season, French OV With German Subtitles

In his new, sensitive drama LIFE BETWEEN US, acclaimed director Stéphane Brizé tells the story of two people who once loved each other and now, some fifteen years later, meet again.

The film follows Mathieu (Guillaume Canet), a famous French actor who is struggling with doubts during a week-long stay at a luxurious seaside resort in the rainy season. He has just had to cancel a theatre production a few weeks before the premiere. In the midst of this retreat, designed to "get him back in shape", he meets Alice (Alba Rohrwacher), his Italian ex-girlfriend from 15 years ago, who now lives nearby with her family. She leads a structured life, juggling piano lessons and voluntary work in a retirement home. Their reunion awakens old memories and unresolved feelings.

OUT OF SEASON vividly shows how fragile romantic relationships are that are subject to social conventions and do not know how to stand the test of time. The film is neither a summer fairy tale nor a winter tragedy. Rather, it is an autumnal chronicle that centres not on a shocking revelation but on bittersweet introspection. In order to maintain this thread, which is much more complex than it seems, you have to be able to rely on good actors. Both Canet and Rohrwacher play these two adults with the utmost dedication.
