Award Winning Sustainable Garden - Open Day
Sustainable development and food security has always been one of the main themes of RISC’s work.
In Protected content was created an edible forest garden on the flat roof above the conference hall. Designed as an educational tool using permaculture principles, the garden has become an oasis in the centre of Reading, a demonstration of how a garden can support more sustainable lifestyles and provide a practical solution to the problems of ‘peak oil’ and global climate change.
It has had international media coverage and was shortlisted for the Observer Ethical Garden Award, Protected content . It has also inspired two related projects: Global School Gardens and Food4Families.
Visit the RISC roof garden to explore this award-winning sustainable garden. It includes Protected content of plants, multi-use perennials used to create an edible forest. It also demonstrates water harvesting and hard landscaping made with renewable/recycled/reused materials.
The entrance to the garden is at the rear of RISC, Protected content Street, RG1 4PS. Entrance is free, donations welcome.
We will meet at 12:30 at the rear of RISC, Protected content Street, RG1 4PS. And we will head for lunch at 14:00 to Lebanese Flavours - Mezze Bar Grill, 82 London Street, Reading RG1 4SJ.
