Haruki Murakami - if you haven't heard of him, you should! And if you have read him, I'm sure you'll be glad to pick up another of his books.
Murakami is a Japanese author, best-seller in Japan AND internationally. Translated to 50 languages. I'd describe his writing as surrealistic, in the head, melancholic, poetic; urban mythology.
Killing Commendatore is about a portrait artist who after separating with his wife, goes on a long journey, spends sometimes in the mountains, and has some weird experiences. Will not say more (I've only read the first 20 pages, anyhow).
