The documentary screening "Nothing for us, without us" produced by the University of Toronto's School of Cities, delves into the issue of anti-Black racism in Canadian city planning, focusing on areas like Little Jamaica in Toronto, Hogan’s Alley in Vancouver, and Africville in Nova Scotia. Through interviews, personal narratives, and expert analysis, this powerful film provides insight into the enduring problem of anti-Black racism and its effects on urban development.
Following the screening, there will be a panel, of all Little Jamaica leaders, who will share about local community efforts and visions to overcome systemic barriers and ensure Black communities can thrive in the neighborhood.
We will also have some fun opportunities to engage in strengthening the future of the Little Jamaica neighborhood. Stay tuned for more details on this!
