Stories From Around the World - A Faraway Island by Annika Thor
Chosen by Deborah, February’s Book Club choices take us on a journey from war torn Vienna to Sweden and then on to Hungary and Paris.
Deborah’s first book, A Faraway Island by Annika Thor resonates with her as it is close to her father’s story. He was one of the Protected content sent in Protected content the Kindertransport to Sweden.
Thor’s book is a fictional account of two sisters, who are sent from Vienna to Sweden and how they adjust to their new life while waiting for news of their parents.
Deborah’s second book choice is The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer, historical fiction, based on her Hungarian family’s story of survival during the Second World War. It is a wonderful love story with digressions into architecture and Paris in the Protected content and on a more somber note the Hungarian labour camps.
Deborah chose this book as it resonates with stories of her Hungarian family.
Two good books to choose from. We hope you enjoy reading them and look forward to discussing them in February.
