Stories From Romania - the Hunger Angel - Herta Müller
This month Book Club is off to Romania where we learn about Herta Müller a Romanian - German novelist, poet and Protected content Prize in literature winner.
Müller is noted for her works depicting the effects of violence, cruelty and terror usually under the repressive Ceausescu regime.
The Hunger Angel was originally published in German under the title Atemschaukel. It is a depictation of the persecution of ethnic Germans in Romania by the Stalinist regime.
The novel tells the story of Leo who is deported to a concentration camp in Ukraine and spends five years of his life there.
