Literature at the Cinema - Ingeborg Bachmann
Our July author is Ingeborg Bachmann, the Austrian poet and author. As this year marks her 100th birthday, we can find ORF documentaries or even films to get to know her life and work.
INGEBORG BACHMANN – JEMAND, DER EINMAL ICH WAR - In a poetic exploration, director Regina Schilling invites the audience to witness the creative process: actress Sandra Hüller approaches the life of Ingeborg Bachmann—imagining a single day in her life—and lends a haunting presence to her words. Through an artful tapestry of improvised scenes, archive treasures, interviews, and Bachmann’s own writing, the film traverses the author’s key life stages—from her wartime childhood in Carinthia and her rise to stardom within the "Gruppe 47" literary circle to her final days in Rome. Her journey is marked by complex relationships with Paul Celan, Hans Werner Henze, and Max Frisch, as well as an unyielding struggle to forge a unique, radical voice amidst the tension between public fame and existential crises.
The film is in German, with no English subtitles.
