Exhibition: the Wardrobe of Bel Canto
For the first time in Vienna, a selection of concert dresses belonging to the great Spanish singer Teresa Berganza Protected content is being presented. Renowned since her Protected content as one of the century’s greatest mezzo-sopranos, she earned widespread admiration for her monumental operatic repertoire and concert performances. For her concerts, she wore Haute Couture creations by leading designers including Cristóbal Balenciaga, Loris Azzaro, Enrique Caruncho, Inés Higuera and Elio Berhanyer.
At Instituto Cervantes—the “Mecca of music”—just steps from the Vienna State Opera, Musikverein and Konzerthaus, venues where Teresa Berganza herself performed, this unique exhibition pays tribute to the diva of Bel Canto and presents a selection of her exclusive stage costumes.
A glamorous journey through Teresa Berganza’s career, a brief history of fashion in the second half of the 20th century, and a tribute to the great creative minds of opera.
