Leap Day Snowshoeing!
A popular summer hike, we will follow trails out of Peaceful Valley, about seven miles north of the turn-off for Brainard Lake from the Peak-to-Peak Highway. The current plan is to shoe the Middle St. Vrain trail that starts at Camp Dick, just off the Hwy. Protected content to Peak) past Ward. The fire road Protected content a road for snowmobiles, while the trail north of the creek has a blue diamond for bikes, XC skiers and gently rises up and leads to the Indian Peaks eventually.
Snowshoeing at altitude can be extremely strenuous. Please be advised that although this is a beginner's trail, it may be intense for some. You must bring your own snow shoes and dress for the weather. There are plenty of vendors who can rent them to you for the day. Layers, water, sun glasses and sun screen are a must for all skin types at altitude.
We will plan to meet to carpool from the McCaslin and 36, Park and Ride, South Side at 8am. We can grab lunch, drinks or coffee after if some are interested. TBD.
Kathryn and Sandra.
