A Monastic Walk

Dear Hikers,
The area between the Taunus mountains and the river Rhein, the Rheingau, was cultivated and shaped in large parts by monks and monasteries. In order to commemorate their achievements, a special hiking trail was introduced: the "Rheingauer Klostersteig". Let's go and explore this historic route!
Since the trail is rather long, we shall split it in two. On this occasion, we shall cover the eastern half. We shall meet at the train station in Oestrich-Winkel and follow the trail to the monastery at Eberbach. Afterwards, we will explore the annual Riesling festival in Kiedrich and will find our way back to the train station at Eltville.
The hike is about 20km long, details can be found here:

Along the route, there will be several options to get drinks and food but do bring at least something to drink...it is a rather long walk with at least one steep ascent.
Our meeting point is the train station at Oestrich-Winkel. A suitable regional train (RB10) will leave Frankfurt Hbf at 9:53am calling at Wiesbaden Hbf at 10:28am.
On the way back, Eltville has regular trains going back to Wiesbaden and Frankfurt.
Cheers,
