French flute player and vocalist Cléa Thomasset invites the two brilliant Brazilian musicians Vitor Celestino on 7 string guitar and Jansen Santana for new repertoire of songs picturing Brazil from the seaside. Goddesses, mermaids, monsters, sailors, jangadas e saudade take the audience on a poetic journey, from the Northeastern Brazilian coast to Rio, dancing on the rythm of forró, ijexá, bossa-nova, choro... Navigating through traditional songs and modern composers like Guinga, Hermeto Pascoal, Edu Lobo and Tom Jobim, worded by the finest lyricists such as Paulo César Pinheiro or Aldir Blanc, the trio definitely plays a different side of Brazil.
Established in London since Protected content , Cléa Thomasset is a flute player, vocalist and composer-songwriter born in North-West of France (Brittany-Pays de Loire).
Equally academically trained and self-taught, she studied classical and jazz flute, and then started to perform as a singer too: French music, Jazz and of course Brazilian music, her very long lasting love affair. After having been taught several years in France by the Brazilian master Eduardo Lopes, she went to Rio de Janeiro, to study choro at Escola Portátil, Brazilian popular singing with Felipe Abreu and rythm with Lucas Ciavatta.
Very active in the Choro network in Europe, she works with the finest chorões of the Old Continent, and also produces/performs with some touring musicians from Brazil ; in Protected content joined Club de Choro UK (founded by Gaio de Lima) as a project manager, then in Protected content her own structure TransversArte, to promote Brazilian and French music, organizing and teaching the London Choro workshops in collaboration with Jonathan Preiss.
She can be seeing performing on European stages with many musicians in a wide variety of genres and is also a poetry writer, regularly published in French poetry magazines.
Vitor Celestino (7-string guitar) grew up in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). He studied Brazilian popular guitar at the Villa-Lobos Music School and classical music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He started his professional carreer on the Rio's scene, specialising in musical genres such as samba, choro and bossa-nova.
Now based in Sweden, he continued to his musical explorations studying at the renowned Royal College of Music in Stockholm. He's a well known musician on the Brazilian scene in Sweden, performing in prestigious venues and festival alongside a number of musicians, including Yamandu Costa.
Percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, Jansen Santana was born in Salvador-Bahia (Brazil). He began his music career very early, as a little child, playing with his father Peu Meurray on his shows. His mother, Cida Nunes, is also a singer, and his parents are still his greatest musical influence.
Jansen has been involved in many projects of diverse music genres, national and international percussion festivals, cultural and environmental projects. Now living in London, he plays and produces with independent artists like him and is a very busy musician. Currently working on his own solo project, he has been recording and composing, basing his research on the places he visited, and the influences of the music on the streets of Salvador da Bahia.
