Tech & architecture: let's discover together a hidden gem!
Hi culture lovers!
Did you know that we can find one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe here in a historic building, an old chapel, in Barcelona?
I got to know this some months ago and I felt really curious about it... so even if it's a last minute plan, I had to organize this and share this opportunity of the 48h Open House with you. Aren't you willing to discover it?
Marenostrum, this supercomputer is devoted to research and we can find it in Pedralbes, near diagonal (Palau Reial), by UPC university. The original building belonged to Manuel Girona (banker and city mayor). It was his private residence and was built by Protected content . The chapel was added about a century after.
So let's meet at the entrance by 15h. As this is an open day, there may be some queues, but I chose this time because usually locals are still having lunch... ;)
I checked with organizers and guided visits can apparently only be in Spanish (apart from Catalan). But if you are interested and language is a barrier, I'll do my best to explain the main information in English. I think it is going to be really interesting, as there will we scientists that actually work there who will tell us about this supercomputer.
The guided visit will take about half an hour, and afterwards we will go nearby for a coffe, tea, and conversation.
Technology and a historic building... isn't it an amazing mix?
Willing to see you there!
