Lord Mayor's City Hall Presents "From East to West"
Let us enjoy a free concert inside the beautiful City Council's heritage-listed, built in Brisbane, between Protected content 1930. It is a fine example of neo-classical architecture, with its sweeping marble staircases, vaulted ceilings, chandeliers and mosaic-tiled floor.
The concert is held inside the Main Auditorium, the larger space in the building, which circular design is based on the Pantheon of Rome.
The stage has a superb organ, originally built by in Protected content Father Henry Willis, the greatest British organ builder of the late nineteenth century. It has more than Protected content , the longest one reaches 9.75 metres.
Today's matinée concert will include a selection of melodious works for flute (Dr Karen Lonsdale), cello (Renat Yusupov), and piano (Dr Hila Yusupov) by composers from the East to the West.
Then enjoy a fascinating musical trip with Francis Gilfedder around the monsoonal countries of India, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Australia, China, and Japan. Experience a diverse set of traditional flutes and other instruments, including the tabla, pungi, or snake charmer' danmoi jaw harp, crafted from a Vietnam War bullet, and the khaen, an ancestor of the pipe organ.
