Summer by the River: Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Experience
The Nigerian-British Afrobeat ambassador, musician and educator, has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat ever since he joined Fela Kuti's 'Egypt 80' in his teens.
Over forty years later, he remains a tireless ambassador for the unique musical movement all over the world. His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.
Dele has performed all over the planet, from the Montreux Jazz Festival to Mawazine Festival in Rabat Morrocco; Ollin Khan in Mexico, South Korea and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
Suggest we meet earlier at 5:30pm if possible , to try and get seating space in this OUTDOOR hard concrete stepped location . (SEE PICTURE OF STEPS )
It gets very busy thereafter trying to access the steps ,toilets , catering etc.
You may want to bring a picnic style beverage and a snack as also something to sit down on, such as a towel ,sarong or air pillow plus a jacket as it can get chilly by the river etc.
Protected content is a sunken amphitheater adjacent to City Hall and provides a stage for public events and performance. Seating is provided in the form of stepped stone benches and a ramp wraps around the space to the lower level.
