SciFi Book Club June 2025 - Midnight Library

The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
A luminous blend of speculative fiction and emotional discovery, the novel is centered on a dazzling concept - what if you could explore every life you could have lived?
Overwhelmed with regret, isolation and the belief that she has failed in every aspect of her life, Nora Seed decides to commit suicide, believing others would be better off without her.
At the moment between life and death, Nora finds herself in a place outside of time, where the boundaries of reality are fluid and imagination stretches wide. This is the Midnight Library, a surreal multiverse shaped by emotion, memory and choice, containing millions of books, each narrating a different version of her life, each diverging from small or major choices, all within reach.
Guided by a familiar librarian figure, Nora is given the chance to explore these alternate lives, leading to her understanding of the impact of each decision and prompting her to search for what truly brings fulfilment and purpose. In essence, her decision to end her life is not the end of her story, but the beginning of her transformation.
Bonus: I am curious to see your musical choices for expressing this emotional journey. I will share my suggestions and you are very welcome to share yours 😊
