LA PASSION SELON MATISSE !
This first exhibition entirely devoted to the Stations of the Cross, co-organized with the Baltimore Museum — which holds one of the world’s most important collections of Matisse and will host the exhibition from March 29 to June 28, Protected content presents a total of 85 drawings from the collections of the Nice Museum, the Chapel of the Rosary, and various private collections.
These works are complemented by archival materials tracing the evolution of the project, from its initial ideas to the final realization. The exhibition reveals the artist’s numerous preparatory studies, often developed from elements of his already well-known works.
“For Matisse, for Baltimore, for Nice, it was essential to share with as many people as possible the significance of the Stations of the Cross designed by the artist for the Chapel of the Rosary — its originality, its modernity, and its universal dimension,” emphasizes Aymeric Jeudy, Director of the Matisse Museum.
“The Dominican Sisters of Vence have generously lent all the preparatory drawings for the Stations of the Cross in their care, shedding light on the priceless legacy of Henri Matisse.”
