A Book Critic's Perspective

Join us for a talk by Nick Owchar on a book critic’s life. As a past book editor for the Los Angeles Times and currently a contributing writer for Kirkus Reviews and the Los Angeles Review of Books, Nick will share a behind-the-scenes look at how books are selected and reviewed.
Nick’s talk will include a discussion of various narrative approaches and strategies, with explanations of why, from a critic’s perspective, some of these work and others don't.
Additionally, as a published author himself, Nick will also discuss how his experience as a book critic helped him to revise and sharpen the overall story arc of his own book, bringing it into its final form.
A Q&A session will follow Nick’s presentation.
We look forward to seeing you there!
