Let's Visit One of Madrid's Hidden Jewels

The Monastery of Las Descalzas Reales, in the heart of Madrid, is a place of worship and tranquility where visitors can observe the contrast with the hustle and bustle of the capital. It was the wish of its founder, Juana de Austria, youngest daughter of Emperor Charles V and Princess of Portugal, to convert the palace where she was born into a monastery.
A unique space evoking the Spanish Habsburgs of the 16th and 17th centuries, the monastery has been listed as a Site of Cultural Interest and was also awarded the distinction of European Museum of the Year in Protected content .
The building combines the characteristics of a Castilian Plateresque palace, with marble columns from Genoa in the courtyards and rooms decorated with tiles and plasterwork in the Moorish tradition, but with Renaissance forms. The sober façade of the monastery makes it difficult to guess the wealth that lies within the building, which is full of murals, paintings, nativity scenes, reliquaries, and tapestries, among many other works of art that make up its fascinating history.
A visit to this monastery allows us to immerse ourselves in important aspects of the history of Spain and Europe and enjoy an exceptional space. Therefore, we will meet at the door at five o'clock in order to pick the free entrance to visit the Monastery, and we can go for a drink afterwards.
