Contemporary Art Opening

Czech artist Miroslav Mařenec - deals with realistic painting. He tries to revive and reconstruct pre-modern practices using contemporary materials and apply them to contemporary themes. He works with irony, paradox and detachment. His paintings often feature artistically interesting natural and antique objects, and the combination of subjects often takes on a bizarre character. The subjects of his works include still life and trompe l'oeil (e.g. the Cabinets series), figuration (e.g. Judith), urban or suburban landscapes (e.g. Negrelli's Viaduct) and portraiture (e.g. Portrait of Dr. V.F.). In addition to painting, Miroslav Mařenec is also a sculptor and graphic artist.
