Theo Croker: trumpet

Michael Ode: drums

After his successful debut album "Afro Physicist", the American trumpeter, singer and composer Theo Croker returns with his powerful and eclectic interpretation of 'Modern Jazz'.

"Escape Velocity" is the name of his new work, with which he was nominated for the second time in a row for the ECHO Jazz. No wonder, he hits big waves with his album debut: the millions on Spotify blew the album effortlessly, American urban greats like Common or J. Cole use his arrangements on a regular basis, and he is also featured on all North international festivals Sea Jazz to represent Montreux Jazz.

He is supported live by his band DVRK FUNK (pronounced: DARK FUNK) consisting of Anthony Ware (tenor saxophone and flute), Michael King (piano), Eric Wheeler (bass) and Kassa Overall (drums). Croker explains the name of the band as follows: "Darkness is usually considered a negative, but the outermost edges of the universe are in the dark. Life begins in the dark. The dark offers countless possibilities, it is infinite and unexplored. That's what we're all about here ... .We always drive our music as far as we can. We're not playing a new game, but we've changed the rules to be totally our game. "

Already at the age of 11, the grandson of jazz trumpeter Doc Cheatham began playing the trumpet and spent nearly ten years in China, where he met his mentor Dee Dee Bridgewater. He has since become an integral part of their live band and released, among other things, his albums on their label DDB Records.

Sounds good to me !
