World Premiere of Lash

I’d like to invite you to the world premiere of LASH, a new opera by Rebecca Saunders, on 20 June Protected content the Protected content
This is Saunders’ first work for the operatic stage, created in close collaboration with writer and visual artist Ed Atkins, and it arrives not with spectacle, but with quiet force. LASH is less a narrative than a meditation: on absence, on the porous boundaries between memory and the body, on the way grief rearranges perception. The central figure, a woman adrift in the aftermath of loss, speaks in fragments, of touch, of illness, of intimacy remembered and reimagined, as though trying to hold language together while everything else slips away.
There is no neat resolution here, no catharsis in the usual sense. But there is beauty in the precision of sound and image, and a kind of truth in the vulnerability the work lays bare. Under the baton of Enno Poppe, whose ear for nuance makes him an ideal interpreter of Saunders’ sound world, LASH offers a stark, sensual encounter with the present tense of grief, where the mind wanders, the body remembers, and language falters.
*It will be performed in English, with surtitles in both German and English.
Feel free to choose your preferred seat. We can meet before the opera, or for a drink afterward. Tickets are available through the link below: Protected content
