Violanta
Hi all,
Violanta by Erich Wolfgang Korngold returns to the stage at the Protected content Berlin, with its house premiere on 25 January Protected content . Written when Korngold was still a teenager, this one-act opera received its first performance in Munich in Protected content already reveals the richness and intensity that would later define his work.
The libretto by Hans Müller-Einigen frames a compact, highly concentrated drama, matched by Korngold’s opulent orchestral writing and striking emotional directness. The performance is conducted by Sir Donald Runnicles, with a new staging by David Hermann, bringing together musical authority and contemporary theatrical insight.
Violanta offers a rare opportunity to encounter early twentieth-century opera at a moment of transition, where late Romantic expression meets a modern psychological edge.
*It's in German with German and English surtitles.
