PROGRAM
Two ensembles under the direction of Alfonso Garrido dedicated themselves to Latin American music with passion and emotion last semester:
The Brasil Combo draws on the rich repertoire of "Música Popular Brasileira" (MPB for short), which combines traditional Brazilian music such as samba, forró, and afoxé with pop music. We will hear songs by Ivan Lins, Djavan, Filó Machado, and Airto Moreira. The Latin Combo, consisting of a large brass and rhythm section and three singers, presents salsa, mambo, and plena from New York, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. Those who can't sit still are welcome to dance.
