The importance of the Danish heath lies in its natural historical, economic and cultural value as a man-made landscape that has shaped Central and Western Jutland for centuries. The heath is a unique habitat with special flora and fauna that requires maintenance to prevent it from becoming a forest. Historically, the heath has been an important resource as fodder, fuel and building material, which has contributed to a poor but adapted lifestyle for the heath farmers. Today, the remaining heath areas are protected as a valuable habitat and an important recreational area.

During this hike we will together explore one of the country's largest continuous heathlands, where you can sense something of the wilderness of yesteryear with wide views in all directions. On the heath lies a protected memorial park, where you can immerse yourself in the history of the heath and its cultivators.

If you watched the Protected content titled "The Promised Land (en)" or "Bastarden (da)", then you know the setting. Otherwise you may want to watch the movie.

We will meet on the parking lot in front of the Kongens Hus In, which we will visit after the hike.
