Brazilian Bosa Nova

BOSSA NOVA BABY TRIO

Free event for Perth Jazz Festival.

“The toast of the Perth Jazz Scene. The release of Bossa Nova Baby has elevated her above a mere covers singer or bossa specialist. Rhythmically perfect and vocally passionate” — The Australian.

Award-winning singer-songwriter Juliana Areias, The Bossa Nova Baby, and creator of the Sunset Songs at North Cottesloe series, brings her authentic Brazilian style to this colourful performance, blending iconic MPB songs and timeless bossa nova classics with an exquisite selection of originals.

Juliana Areias has performed on major stages around the world, including the Sydney Opera House, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, The Green Room in New York, and Rio’s legendary Beco das Garrafas — where bossa nova was born.

Her acclaimed original album Bossa Nova Baby won Best Brazilian Album at the US Focus Brazil Awards and reached the US Top Protected content Charts. A five-time Western Australian Music Awards nominee, her music was considered “the changing face of Australian music” by ABC Radio National and praised as “excelling in elegance” by The Australian in its four-star review.

Expect favourites by masters such as Jobim, Djavan, Joao Donato, Rita Lee, Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Leny Andrade, Rosa Passos and many more.

Areias is honoured to share the stage with her long-time friends and music partners from Brazil — guitarist Gus Potenza and percussionist Rafael Medeiros de Souza.
