Cumberland Island National Seashore Hike
NOTE: This hike is dependent on the government reopening.
DAY HIKE: Join us for the day on magical Cumberland Island National Seashore off the coast of South Georgia. Our guide, Joni Roberts, has spent 17 days on the pristine island camping and hiking since Protected content , and will take us on a beautiful hike exploring the southern part of the island from the Sea Camp Rangers Station (where the ferry drops you) to Dungeness ruins.
We will experience dune fields, maritime forests, salt marshes, beaches, and historic sites, while encountering a variety of potential wildlife, including horses, deer, armadillos, turkeys, and native and migratory birds.
Expect to walk at a moderate pace with a minimum of four and up to seven miles over six hours. You can choose to opt out of the longer hike after reaching Dungeness. Bring lunch, snacks, sunscreen, layers, bug repellent, and anything else you can carry with you. Potable water stations are available.
You must take a ferry to reach the island. There are no cars and no stores on the island. It’s pack in, pack out.
CAMPING: Joni has reserved Sea Camp site #15 for Saturday and Sunday. Reach out to Joni if you would like to camp one or both nights. Joni has organized five camping trips to the island, both solo and in small groups.
