Please join us at the Spanish Pond Trail in the Theodore Roosevelt Area of the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve for an approximately four Protected content hike through this thickly wooded and yet peaceful nature trail.

Named for the pre-Columbian Timucua Indians, the Preserve encompasses a 46,000-acre area that represents 6,000 years of human history in the area. It is primarily natural acreage with hiking trails and vast grassland supporting both water and land animals.

At 9:00am sharp, we will meet in the parking lot across from the Fort Caroline National Memorial (National Park Service). We will hike the approximately 4-mile perimeter of the park.

There are areas of the trail where there are roots and there is about an 90-foot elevation change along the route.

Hiking shoes, water*, sunscreen* and insect repellent are highly recommended.

*Bring your water in a reusable container instead of a single-use plastic bottle.

*Use sunscreen free of oxybenzone and octinoxate. These chemicals are extremely harmful to coral reefs, as well as being hormone disruptors in humans.
