Nicola Piovani: Great Music – Great Movies

Who could imagine the Taviani brothers’ Chaos, or Roberto Benigni defying the horror of the concentration camps, without the music that has quite literally haunted our collective memory?
The composer who has left an indelible mark on Italian cinema over the past 50 years, a student and aesthetic heir of Manos Hadjidakis, the creator of more than Protected content scores, successor to Nino Rota in Federico Fellini’s final films, and an Academy Award winner for his score to Life is Beautiful — Nicola Piovani, a true musical legend of world cinema, takes the stage of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, in a landmark collaboration between the Athens Epidaurus Festival and Megaron the Athens Concert Hall.
The Maestro, joined by the Athens State Orchestra, presents his music through three orchestral suites, drawn from his emblematic collaborations with four of the great poets of Italian cinema: Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, Roberto Benigni, and Federico Fellini.
