A Musical Lunch Hour - Anyone?
The Vancouver Public Library-Central Branch is an architecturally unique building that merits a visit, if for no other reason, then just for being one of the most striking buildings in Vancouver, if not world wide.
So why not bring your lunch or buy one on the spot and enjoy some culture! The VPL monthly concert series Staircase Sounds returns with the sound of traditional and contemporary SUDANESE music, beautifully interpreted by local band Sudanda!
Sudanda was formed in Protected content the music of Ala'aeldin Abdalla, a composer, singer and oud player. He is originally from the Sudan and now living in Vancouver. Alaaeldin’s music draws on traditional Sudanese forms, and he composes music for contemporary Sudanese poets. In Protected content , Ala'aeldin was forced to leave the Sudan and after coming to Vancouver, he met other musicians and formed Sudanda in Protected content .
The name of the band is a combination of Sudan and Canada. Current band members include Earle Peach on guitar, Riv Lai on bass, Jane Kalmakoff on accordion, James Griffiths on trumpet, and Wesley Skakun on percussion.
This event is part of VPL Protected content History Month programming.
Although a free event, Registration is mandatory, so I tentatively registered 4 spaces, just in case. Once all gathered, we will go together to the venue on Level 8. If the weather is good, after the concert we will check out the hidden roof top to sink in the view, followed by a short walk to enjoy a coffee chat in a nearby cafe.
