José González was at the center of the resurgence of folk music at the start of the millennium. Now he’s visiting the festival with film, Q&A, and his live acoustic songs.
Despite only releasing four solo albums in his 20-year music career, José González still has more than a billion streams of his music. Alongside his music, the former biochemistry student also has an interest in film, which saw him take to the big screen at CPH:DOX in Protected content the film ‘The Extraordinary Ordinary Life of José Gonzalez’. This year, José will visit the festival in the flesh for the first time with a moderated conversation, where he will even play some songs acoustically between questions. The occasion is the world premiere of the film ‘A Tiger in Paradise’, with which we start the evenings. Behind the film is Ruben Östlund’s Cannes-winning team (Mikel Cee Karlsson as director and Erik Hemmendorff as producer) and together with José they have created an existential and aesthetically accomplished film that, with dark humour and mutual trust, takes us on a surreal journey deep into the smouldering chaos of Gonzalez’s inner self.
