Copenhagen Jazz Fest - Sarathy Korwar (UK/IN)

Sarathy Korwar is a drummer, composer, producer and bandleader. Korwar has established himself as one of the most original and compelling voices on the British jazz scene. His music fuses jazz, electronic music, Indian folk and classical influences, with a focus on decolonisation, community, race and transcendence. His latest album, There is Beauty, There Already, is an Indo-futuristic manifesto that celebrates a rich South Asian musical and literary culture and calls for a cure for historical amnesia. Korwar has received an AIM Award, MOJO Jazz Album of the Year and The Guardian Best Global Album of Protected content .

Korwar has toured and collaborated with the likes of Anoushka Shankar, Kamasi Washington, Metropole Orchestra and Shabaka Hutchings, and has performed at festivals/venues such as the Sydney Opera House, North Sea Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Dekmantel and many more. His music has been featured in the New York Times, The Guardian, The Quietus, Pitchfork and Rolling Stone with support from NPR, KEXP, BBC Radio 1, Radio 3 and 6 Music.
