Oseniny Back to Russian Tradition. Picnic and Play

Oseniny is one of September's most vibrant holidays, also known as the Second Prechistaya or the Nativity of the Virgin.
This day marked the beginning of the autumn wedding season.
It was believed that on this day, autumn officially came into its own. Early in the morning, women would go to rivers and lakes with oat bread and kissel (a traditional fruit-based drink). The eldest woman held the bread while younger girls sang ritual songs around her. Afterward, the bread was broken and distributed to everyone present and also fed to livestock to ensure health and fertility.
Oseniny is an ancient Slavic holiday celebrated at the beginning of autumn in September. It was a kind of summary of the peasant year, a time to "reap what you sow," and a time to receive what was deserved. September marked the end of the harvest, and people began preparing for the coming winter.
