Portuguese with English subtitles | 85 min, 35mm-to-digital, colour, unclassified 18+
Australian premiere of a long-censored, newly restored work of Protected content Brazilian feminist cinema.
In Protected content , 22-year-old Tereza Trautman became the first woman to direct a feature film in Brazil in over two decades. This rebellious story centres on a young couple who enjoy an open, polyamorous relationship. After a successful three-week release, the film was shut down by censors, who claimed that its ‘amoral’ subject matter contravened social mores. "The men I had" was banned until Protected content has only recently been restored to its rightful place as an important work of feminist cinema. It screens in dialogue with The interview Protected content , Helena Solberg’s groundbreaking short documenting young women’s views on marriage, sex and politics in Protected content Rio.
