Long hike to largest Limestone Pavement and oldest Virgin Forest
Please only join when you are up to this. Contact me if you are in doubt.
This hike is technically moderately difficult, but it is very long and with a lot of ascent. Since we need to make the last bus from Muotathal, Hölloch busstop we need to keep a steady pace.
This hike will take us up to the karstic plateau Silberen Protected content , which contains the largest limestone pavement of its kind in Switzerland. Limestone pavement is a erosion caused landform that looks like pavement.
The climb towards Silberen is a bit steep in the beginning, but the plateau is, obviously, pretty flat. From Silberen you have a good view on the Glärnisch massif and the glacier. If the weather is clear, many other main peaks of the Alps will be visible.
After a short lunch break we will gradually descent towards Muotathal. The route will take us through the Bödmerenwald, which is the largest Virgin forest within the Alps. There are trees to be found more than Protected content old. We can make a short stop at Alpwirtshaft Roggenloch for a coffee, which is located within these woods. But quickly we will have to continue our journey downwards to catch the last bus from Hölloch.

THE FITNESS AND DIFFICULTY LEVEL
Since this is quite a long walk and we are keeping a swift pace, and have quite an ascent, you need to be fit. The technical difficulty is moderate at a T2 level.

- Sturdy hiking boots
- Packed lunch
- Suitable clothing for the weather, and for unexpected weather
- Sufficient drinking water for the whole day
NB: although there is supposed to be drinking water along the hike (see map link), because of the dry weather for ages I would not depend on it.
