Let's go to the Azores, explore the islands of Santa Maria and São Miguel, and witness the colourful Festas das Cavalhadas de S. Pedro in Ribeira Grande.
Santa Maria, the Yellow island, with 8.1 million years, is the grandma island of the archipelago.
The Cavalhadas de São Pedro is a secular tradition that emerged as a way of thanking São Pedro - patron saint of the parish of Ribeira Seca - for protecting the temple from the volcanic eruption of Protected content . The festivities, one of the most colourful in Portugal, occur on the evening of June 28 and the morning of the following day.
