Sara Parkman SE – EXTRA - Nordic Folk Music in Brorson’s Church
Link to ticket:
Sara Parkman blends folk music, hymn interpretation, and pop production. With several critically acclaimed albums behind her, the Swedish composer, violinist, and singer has become something of a phenomenon – bringing the heavens down to earth.
Sara Parkman infuses folk traditions with pop production, poetry, and political edge. At home in Sweden, this has made her a poster name of contemporary folk music, using the genre to challenge nationalism, patriarchy, and exploitation of nature. And to sing of love and the grand emotions, even the difficult and inconvenient ones. “Må Gud välsigna dig med vredens skogar / Må Gud välsigna dig med ilskans dalar” (“May God bless you with the forests of wrath / May God bless you with the valleys of anger”), she sings in one of her songs. What characterizes Sara Parkman are her beautiful lyrics and her powerful, captivating voice. She is something of a folk music phenomenon – an outstanding example that this tradition is far from a relic of the past. In Sara Parkman, it lives and breathes.
Beyond being a folk musician, composer, singer, and violinist, Sara Parkman is also a pastor’s daughter. Her music draws deeply on hymn traditions, prayer, and church choirs.
This was evident on the album ‘Vesper’ (meaning “evening prayer”) from Protected content and partly recorded in a monastery in France.
The concert is seated.
