Ambrose Akinmusire

For over 15 years, trumpeter and composer Ambrose Akinmusire has occupied a singular space in jazz—both at its core and on its fringes. His latest album, Honey From a Winter Stone (Jan 17, Protected content , features an exceptional lineup including singer-improviser Kokayi, pianist Sam Harris, synth artist Chiquitamagic, drummer Justin Brown, and string quartet Mivos. The album blends modern string textures, freestyle, and contemporary jazz, offering a profound exploration of the African-American experience.
Akinmusire’s groundbreaking work has earned him acclaim from institutions like the Doris Duke Foundation and the Kennedy Center, further solidifying his role as one of the most vital and innovative voices in modern music.
