700. Anniversary of Hamburg Sailing Regatta

This is only "spectators" view.... sailing we have to discuss during the meeting...
The idea for this regatta series was proposed by one of our members from Australia. Since Australia is often associated with kangaroos, the regatta he initiated was given this unusual name. The Kangaroo Regatta is open to all monohull boat classes and is started using the yardstick system. The special feature of the Kangaroo starting system is the pre-determined course length in time and the resulting starting time for each individual boat.
Since Protected content , this regatta has been a Wednesday tradition at our Hamburg Sailing Club and on the Alster. At that time, the marsupial still had an "h" at the end, which was only dropped in the late Protected content . Since it has been a proper name ever since, it has remained the "Kangaroo with an h" Regatta.
