Cowboy Days: Music and Stories of Their Vanished World FREE!
Yeehaw! Tighten your saddle – this summer brings more than just sunshine: it’s a season of great stories, living history, and musical adventures!
In 19th century North America, the vast lands stretching north and west from the Rio Grande River were not yet states, but “territories”, sparsely populated by Indian tribes, rich in animals and seemingly endless grasslands. In Protected content , Steve Austin arrived in Texas, many settlers from the east with him. Texas longhorn cattle, half wild, were freely available. Cattle ranching became big business both north and south of the Rio Grande. Every spring, the cattle had to be driven north to reach the railroad lines and the richer pastures in Wyoming and Montana. Cowboys - white, Mexican and black - drove the animals by the thousands along routes like the old Chisholm Trail. The continent was still untamed by barbed wire or roads. The legendary journeys through deserts, floods, over mountains and rivers are preserved for us in songs, ballads, stories and melodies that are brought to life in Cowboy Days.
We invite you on a musical journey across North America’s historic frontier. Look forward to authentic cowboy songs collected by John Avery Lomax, brought to life through a dramatic narrative centered around a young cowboy’s first trail drive – an evening full of music, storytelling, and Western spirit.
