Let´s Visit Together: Marthe Donas & Alexander Archipenko

In cooperation with the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp, the Modern Gallery of the Saarland Museum, is presenting a major exhibition devoted to the avant-garde duo Marthe Donas and Alexander Archipenko. Featuring around Protected content , the exhibition highlights the fruitful collaboration of the artist couple between Protected content Protected content at the same time reveals their decisive contribution to the revival of the cosmopolitan artists’ circle La Section d’Or after the First World War. Donas’s radical shaped canvases and Archipenko’s pioneering sculpto-peintures mark key milestones of early modernism.

The exhibition focuses on the rediscovery of Marthe Donas, whose innovative work—despite a period of remarkable success—fell largely into obscurity in the decades that followed, while Alexander Archipenko’s fame has endured to this day. The presentation makes it possible to view the artistic development of both positions in dialogue and to read their respective formal and conceptual approaches in relation to those of other avant-garde contemporaries, including Theo van Doesburg, Piet Mondrian, Fernand Léger, and Amedeo Modigliani.
