Remembrance of the Dead in Kamp Amersfoort
Time for something serious...
On the 4th of May, the Dutch commemorate all civilians and members of the armed forces of the Kingdom who have died in wars or during peace keeping missions since the beginning of WWII.
There will be ceremonies in many places. One special ceremony is at Kamp Amersfoort, not far from Utrecht. This camp was build as a military camp in Protected content , but was taken over by Nazi-Germany to function as a concentration camp. From here, prisoners were deported to camps like Buchenwald, Neugengamme or Mauthausen.
Not only Dutch people were imprisoned in this camp. Also a lot of Russians were here and over Protected content them were killed in this camp.
The ceremony will consist of a silent march from the visitor's center to the cemetery, passing some monuments and the Russian cemetery. At 20.00 there will be 2 minutes of silence, after which we will sings the national anthem and there will be a speech by one of our ministers (in Dutch).
