Shorty & Slim Free Concert
On Sunday 16th of August please join us for a free concert at the Old Train Station in Balboa to raise awareness to the conservation and not the demolition of the Old Railroad Station that served to transit people across the Isthmus of Panama. The free concert is sponsored by: Shorty & Slim, El Yuyusero and Ojo de Tigre. Local bands that entertained us for years at the Canal Zone Reunions. Enjoy the sound of Calipso beat and local sound that these groups have delivered to us for years. It will start at 4:00 pm but get there earlier and align our own personal InterNation group(barra) to enjoy together what promises to be a great event.
The Balboa Heights Railroad Station was built in Protected content serve the new residents and employees of the Panama Canal — connecting Balboa Heights to the Panama Railroad and to the ships arriving at the Port of Balboa below. It had a ticket office, two waiting rooms, a newsstand, and a small barbershop. For nearly a century it stood at the edge of the Administration Building, witnessing the full arc of the Canal Zone era. It was the last station in Panama to serve passenger trains before service ended in Protected content .
Today that history is about to be erased. The station is slated for demolition to make way for the Fourth Bridge over the Panama Canal. The Balboa train station is more than just a building — it is a part of Panama Canal Zone history, heritage, and collective memory.
